I have had trouble doing a proper leak down test at my annual inspections. I spoke with Sean (now departed) and he suggested that you just put the engine at the top of the compression stroke and put the air to it. No matter how hard I tried the air would turn the engine over. Then I had a brain storm.

I hooked an old tie down to one of the fan blades and wrapped the other end around the tubing. Applying air pressure tries to turn the engine but with a couple of wraps of the tie down around one of the tubes it is easy to restrain. It is also easy to remove so that you can move to the next bank of cylinders.

    Piece of cake.

The photo is poor I know. It was taken from the pilots side looking through the intersection of the tail attachment points. It shows the nylon strap going across the top of the fan and the hook on a fan blade.
